Solo Heroes is a group of solo artists, developing solo shows. It was co-founded by Ivy Eisenberg and JJ Pyle, who met in a class at the Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) at Primary Stages, taught by comedian Judy Gold. Hours, weeks, months, and years were spent writing and rewriting and reading to fellow classmates. But we needed an outlet and an audience, hence Solo Heroes was born. We began in a small cabaret theatre on the Upper West Side of NYC in 2015 before moving downtown to the infamous Nuyorican Poets cafe on the Lower East Side of NYC.
We accept submissions, we hold rehearsals and we give artists a safe space to try out material and workshop sections of solo shows. Many Solo Heroes alums have gone on to produce full-length shows at the likes of the Cherry Lane Theatre, solo festivals, and even the Edinburgh Fringe.
We believe that:
Every Story has a Hero. Or is it... every Hero has a Story?
